The periods in Picasso’s art were influenced by his life. Picasso’s blue period started after his friend committed suicide. He fell into a severe depression that influenced his work. It was called his blue period because almost all the pieces were done in shades of blue and blue-green. Picasso’s rose period started after his blue period. The themes became lighter and he used more red tones and earth tones. The paintings in his rose period depicted clowns and harlequins.
