Betye Saar

Betye Saar is an African American assemblage artist who was part of the Black Arts Movement in the 1970s.

Saar's work is very political. She uses old toys, dolls and other things found at flea markets that have racial stereotypes or are offensive. I was drawn to her work because I like the message behind her work and it is very original to see in assemblage work. I like the 50s/60s aesthetic her work has, due to that being when it was created. I also like her use of antique figures to bring across her point.
