Louise Bourgeois
Louise Bourgeois
Louise Bourgeois was a French- American artist who is best known for her installations and large scale sculpture but she also was a painter and a print maker. One of her best known works Maman is a bronze, stainless steel and marble sculpture. The sculpture depicts a spider and is 30ft tall. It even has a sack that contains 32 marble eggs. The spider is an ode to her mother who was a weaver and Bourgeois's best friend. I personally love the piece which at first may seem scary or creepy but after hearing the meaning behind it and looking at it for a long time and seeing how the spider's pregnant, It feels almost comforting.
