The Long Run
The Long Run is a exhibition at the MoMA. All the artists are from MoMA's collection. It features nearly 50 artists including Georgia O'Keeffe, Frank Stella, Gego, Lee Bontecou, Joan Jonas, and more. The show documents the continued experimentation after the artists made their big break. Each work showcases an artists evolution and suggests that the invention comes from preservation. It shows that the artists kept working throughout their lives whether they changed styles or their style stayed the same.
I choose to do a blog on this exhibit because I like the idea behind it as well as who it includes a big variety of artists. I like that the show shows these artists progression and pieces of work that are not as well known. I believe that it is important for artists to try new things which is what this show exhibits.
One of my favorite pieces in the show is Giufa, la luna, i ladre e le guardie by Frank Stella. I Love the sharp lines, bright colors, size and overall loudness of the piece. Another piece that I like is Medea's Hypostases III by Geta Bratescu. In this piece I like the detailed line work, color palette, and the overall composition. I also like the piece New York by Helen Levitt. I like the composition, color and facial expression the figure has in the photo. I enjoy the piece From a day with Juan II by Georgia O'Keefe because of the two different colors and the pleasant simplicity. Lastly I really liked No Rain by Joan Mitchell. I love the different lines and brushstrokes as well as the craziness of the piece.
